Finally, something worth reading about regarding the conditions of American teachers in education...what happened to Ms. Lau was awful. I hope the uft stays on top of this story.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm sold.

This is the very best pro-union story that has appeared in a long time, with implications not only for teachers, but for all American workers. There is nothing like unionism to drive a stake through the heart of Grover Norquist, if indeed he has one.

The CO is a bad boss among bad bosses--worse than the guy from Dilbert. Every American has had a boss like that.

I'm glad you ran this and I certainly hope the UFT plans to keep this story, with its real-life Disney-style happy ending, in the public eye. Money cannot buy a story like this.

Leo wrote about card check union recognition in the post where we reported that union busting firms had hosted a conference on how to keep unions out of charter schools. (Scroll down to "Card Check: The Real Story".)

This page at American Rights at Work is a good rundown of the card check recognition process.

Jordan Barab has a post about Card Check recognition, with links to a good article from Jonathan Tasini at Nathan Newman's Labor Blog.

I hope that helps. The American Rights at Work page is a great resource.

Could you please explain what "card check" is and how it affects attempts to unionize?

Thanks.
