On March 13 scores of parents, students, educators and concerned community residents demonstrated in front of Roosevelt High School campus building housing the Fordham High School for the Arts to protest five years of alleged harassment, unprofessional conduct, verbal abuse and other mistreatment of teachers and other staffers by Principal Iris Blige that resulted in the departure of nine assistant principals and dozens of educators since she became principal.

A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words!
Without a united voice, the cries of injustice would only be a murmur. Thanks to the UFT/AFT, members can articulate grievances on city streets,in City Hall, in Albany and in Washington, DC. Freedom of speech, a basic human right, which is provided for in the United States Constitution, is a necessity in any democratic society.
Today we must owe a debt of gratitude to Dave Selden, an extraordinary teacher/unionist. And lest we forget:
“One name that you don’t hear so much about is the man who inspired our founders and worked tirelessly to help found our union. That man’s name is Dave Selden.”
“When we celebrate on March 16, another UFT Anniversary, let us remember Dave Selden. He had the vision and brilliance that helped bring about teacher unity and the birth of UFT.”
