To speak on the comment above me. Your statement is completely ignorant. To put emphasis on the fact of being American and that special needs children should be group together in a different school with foreigners just to get extra attention is ludacris. I have a child with special needs who needs special serices such as speech therapy and he deserves the same qulity education as your child. Education shouldn't be a Zoo where people are to be grouped like different breeds in different buildings. In fact, each child should be entilted to the same education. It is sad that parents like yourself are so ignorant to the fact that people who may very likely be your bosses also had some special needs at some point in their life. Not to mention you stressed being American my son and I are also American and I pay the same taxes as you if not more and am pleased that my son will have an opportunity and a place in a "mainstream school" as you like to put it. Because all children with special needs are not the same. Maybe before you comment, you should take the time evaluate yourself because with that attitude you seem to possibly also have a special need... counseling which is also a service they offer! Sorry to say people like you exist.. I also hope you are not still breeding, because you never know if any of your future children will need the same service. Maybe then you will see it differently!

Hello, adding to comment above to me it sounds like DOE has a science project and wants to use our children as the experiment, I dont think so. Best thing to do here is make new schools and put your (IEP) and (children from other countries) in the same school for that extra attention. I dont see no need to put mainstream American children in these classes to help out. Also to me it sounds like some teachers need jobs but with no new schools they have to make due by putting 2 teachers per classroom to make up for that budget allowance. So please spare the BS. lol 228 mil for class reduction compared to the over populated schools just doesnt make sense. Take 1/2 of the 228 mil and teach the children English before putting them into mainstream schooling.

If you have never seen this done then you should not be so negative on the subject. Please give this a chance and see for yourself what a CTT class can do for children! If the teachers are trained properly and the class is run correctly, everyone in the room will benefit from having two teachers. The class ratio in the lower grades is still 12:1. The benefit is most lessons are taught on two rugs in groups of 12 students to one teacher. This gives the teacher a smaller group to work with and give more individual attention to the students! The Special Needs students will learn many things from the General Ed students and vice versa. They learn academics next to each other and teach each other how to get along in groups with people or children that are not the same as you. It sounds to me, after reading some of these comments that the authors needed to be exposed to some Special Needs friends in their lives and be more excepting of other people.

The big picture is that no, it does not really help reduce class size but it gives many opportunities to students-spec ed and general ed.

Can anyone tell me what chancellor or other regulation governs placement of non-disabled children into CTT classes. Thanks.

Once again the NYC DOE falls short with reducing class sizes. It's a shame considering all of the effort that went into the CFE.

With a steady increase in student enrollment, one of the things that the DOE needs to immediately concentrate on is building new schools. It's a shame that there's nothing in the city's Contract For Excellence about that.
