I am struggling to understand why the mayor and chancelor hates us so much. I am a product of NYC public schools, and I loved my teachers. I am a teacher because of them. I feel like this mayor and chancelor are ripping my dream from not only me but my students. If this contract passes, I will leave.

These are hard times for unions. The Police Arbitration funded their contract through drastic reductions in starting salaries and the Correction Officers did likewise:

"The agreement with the union, the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association, announced at a joint news conference by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Norman Seabrook, the union's president, would also provide concessions to the city, including a reduction in pay for newly hired officers and fewer
personal leave days."

The Detroit teachers union, a militant union that has gone on strike many times
saw 22% of their members laid off in the Spring (18% were recalled) and "settled" for a one year wage freeze, without increases in differentials, "loaned" the city the equivelance of five days pay and gave up five annual sick days.

My hallucinating colleagues who rail against Randi and the current f-f Report should wake up ... the Report is less palatable to Bloomberg ... and we will likely have to strike to get the Report!!

Many people have noted how a dog and its master, after being bonded for many years, take on each other's quirks and idiosyncrasies and even character. Klein's "dog" is a beast of a breed heretofore unknown among chancellors: a mongrelization of raw power, barren conscience, and an unspeakably putrid face. I know this isn't helpful.
