Kombiz: Good announcement about a good issue. We’ve covered the strike of the Oaxaca, Mex. teachers in New York Teacher and we will do so again. EdWize readers should know that the problems they are grappling with go beyond contract demands or even the future of education in a mostly rural section of a third world nation. There’s an economic history and a political context that need to be understood, too. That’s why I’m recommending a new piece by David Bacon, a Cal-based labor reporter and frequent contributor to The Nation, who is emerging as one of the US’s most savvy labor writers. His extensive treatment of what the teachers face—and why– is available at truthout.
It’s well worth a read.
