[Editor’s note: No-sleep-till-Brooklyn is the pseudonym for a second-year kindergarten teacher in Brooklyn.]
I realize I left off in a bad place. Killer attacks – no word from teacher. Did she make it out of there alive?
Killer attempted to attack again, but his attempts were futile. Smart teacher to the rescue (cue theme song here). Four flying chairs and a tantrum later, Killer settled and got himself under control. The next day was rocky. The day after that was a decent day. And then after that, decent day. Killer is mellowing out. Killer might need a new name. Like, Quasi-Killer.
I made an appointment today to visit the fire department with both kindergarten classes. I admit that I may have had a slight case of the giggles while scheduling a date. I had to gush a bit about how WONDERFUL the visit went last year and how very HELPFUL those strong, brave firemen were . . . ahem! Yes, this Thursday would be perfect. Great. See you at 10.
Kindergarten is all right, but it’s not IT for me. I feel satisfaction at the end of the day, but I think there’s more out there for me. Teaching a higher grade, teaching second language learners, teaching outside of the States – not sure. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but I can’t help but wonder what thrill will be around the next bend. From kindergarten Killer to who knows what – I might just be ready to handle anything.
