[Editor’s note: Each morning Edwize posts Teacher News of the Day, a roundup of the day’s news for NYC teachers, and a poll asking you what you think the day’s top story is. Here’s more on a top story from last week about the 2008 Presidential race.]
The AFT, as part of it’s You Decide 2008 program, let members propose and vote for three questions to ask Democratic presidential candidates John Edwards, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Richardson and Joe Biden at the May AFT Executive Council meeting.
Richard Charap, a UFT leader in the Bronx, was one of the winners. You can watch video footage of his question (it’s the first video listed), the other 2 questions, and a look behind the scenes (the fourth video) at the AFT You Decide 2008 web site.
The AFL-CIO is doing something similar for tonight’s Presidential Forum in Chicago, with members first proposing debate questions online and then voting for the top 10. The candidates will face questions from debate moderator Keith Olbermann and the union members who submitted the winning questions. Tune in to MSNBC at 7pm to hear the questions and watch the debate.
And be sure to leave a message congratulating Richard in the comments!
