What if the massive recession doesn't materialize? Also, what about the supposed billions of dollars in surplus? Now Spitzer and Bush are cutting promised funding. I know... why not reject NCLB? We're not getting the funding anyway, and it will be an opportunity to get rid of the ridiculous paperwork and testing. The following should be cut:

Klein’s public image consultants
Cambridge Quality review
The “Gotcha” squad
The leadership academy
The no-bid contracts

The supposed hard times have not hit us yet. What if the massive recession doesn’t materialize? Also, what about the supposed billions of dollars in surplus? Now Spitzer and Bush are cutting promised funding. I know… why not reject NCLB? What's our plan to help the city raise revenue? I've suggested helping the mayor pass his congestion pricing proposal, which will raise hundreds of millions annually. Yes, I know the money will be earmarked for mass transit, but the result will be less competition for city funds. I don't see how we benefit from our current position on this issue. OK, we all agree the cuts are unfair, but it doesn’t change the reality that we’re headed for some dark days.
