St. Petersburg Times Interview with Weingarten

The St. Petersburg Times education blog, The Gradebook, posted a recent interview with Randi Weingarten. Among other issues, Weingarten discussed the need to fight against disinvestment in public schools, as districts across the country are facing cuts in the wake of the credit crisis.

Cutting your way through this [economic crisis] is saying to kids, ‘You don’t count.’ That’s what it’s saying. It’s saying that we can’t find a way, the adults can’t find a way in this nation, to immunize kids from the devastation and to invest in them with the same importance as it was a year ago or two years ago.
