Leo,
The UFT leadership should be commended for resisting pressure and supporting the Khalil Gibran school. You also tood a positive stand in your differences with Kahlenberg. You are right. A multicultural school isn’t un-American. As UFT leaders, it is now your responsibility to try and save the school by redeeming Principal Montaser and pushing for her restoration as principal. You’ve made your position on the T-shirts clear and nobody will think that you support the I word. You should make it clear that you don’t think she condones terror bombing either, which I’m sure you don’t and try and reconcile with her and the people marching to save the school. Such a move would show real leadership and help heal the rift in the community which this issue has caused.
