Can we please make more noise about the teacher resignation rates? Not only is this a crisis in terms of too many kids being taught by inexperienced teachers, but we all know that teachers are the canaries in the proverbial coal mine in terms of learning environment in the schools.

We've been on the defensive for the last 6 years as Klein has blamed the union for the school's system's failures while using carefully selected test data to proclaim his reforms a success. Too many people have bought into his claims.

We should force him to specify the extent to which he plans to reduce teacher attrition and then keep up the pressure each year the data does not show improvement. Not only could we put him on the defensive, we could broaden the public dialogue beyond just test scores and get people talking about the (often miserable) conditions that exist in our schools.

We can't let this be a one-day story.
