i do not think that administrations should hire or fire a teacher based on their students success on standardized test. Teachers then would begin to teach to the test even more then they are today. Teachers should be preparing the students for life, not a another test.

Still, if we keep that in mind and understand VA as just one sliver of flawed information that must be viewed in context with all the other flawed information we have about a particular teacher and her students, then VA might be helpful for teachers themselves...

I do not believe this.

The DoE is pushing for an end-run around tenure. They are pushing for merit pay (and have already gotten that, partially, with the "School-wide bonuses" which are doled out in some schools based on individual performance)

This is another attempt.

Instead of arguing about context, we should be opposing the teacher data reports, and warning teachers what the DoE's intent is (end-run around whatever agreement they signed with us in bad faith, to use them for evaluative and pay differential purposes.)

How can we trust people who trust Bloomberg and his Chancellor?

Tthese clowns want administrators to be able to fire and reward teachers based on how well their students do on standardized tests.

They infer that teachers are responsible for the lives of their students.

It therefore follows that teachers should be able to claim their students as "dependents" on their tax returns
