Welcome DoE Brass!

Earlier this week we noticed an influx of visitors from the Department of Education headquarters at the old Boss Tweed courthouse. Today we found out why.

Lately, we’ve been experimenting with ways to make Edwize more interactive for our readers. Last Sunday we celebrated Joel Klein’s fifth year as NYC School Chancellor with a tongue-in-cheek poll. When the Department of Education’s Communications Director Julia Levy saw the poll she sprung into action, sending a helpful email to her comrades at Tweed:

Subject: NY1 grading the chancellor
Hi all,
NY1 is asking NYers what grade they’d give Joel for his five-year tenure as schools chancellor. If you’re interested in voting, please visit http://www.ny1.com/ny1/Polls/index.jsp?pollactivequestionintid=2905. (Feel free to pass this along to your teams.)
Also, you have another chance to grade the chancellor — this time on edwize, the UFT’s blog. Please visit http://www.edwize.org/ to vote. Please share this with your colleagues and friends.
Julia

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Some may take this opportunity to make snarky observations about the DoE’s willingness to fudge data. We’ll merely say hello to our visitors from the DoE (Hi Julia!) and wonder if the time is coming when we’ll hammer out issues in the comments section of a blog post. This might even be the inspiration to throw up another poll. Who wants to vote on using CFE money to decrease class size in city schools?
